Cleaning
and Care of Corelle
Dinnerware
Care
Corelle is impact
resistant glass made
by
Corning Glass Works, and
is stronger than most glass or china products.
A drop or hard blow may
cause the product to break or become damaged, causing later breakage
without apparent reason.
Most pieces are
microwave safe. Because
it is
impact-resistant, it may break into many small pieces. Misuse can cause
breakage.
Do
not use on top of stove, under a broiler or under a
browning unit in a microwave oven.
Do
not use sugar bowl cover in any oven.
Do
not add liquid to a hot dish, place hot dish on a wet or
cool surface or handle with a wet cloth.
Do
not use chipped or cracked ware.
Do
not caramelize sugar in a microwave oven; this can cause
chipping or breakage
.
Cleaning
Corelle
is dishwasher safe. Wash sugar bowl cover on top rack
only.
To
remove metal or hard water marks, use baking soda on a damp
cloth.
To remove temporary
discoloration, use
three tablespoons vinegar
to one cup hot water. Let stand. Wash as usual.
Do
not use metal scouring pads or harsh cleansers.
Cleaning
China, Crystal,
Glassware
To
reduce chipping and break age: Prepare
for washing of glassware by having a rubber pad or folded heavy towel
in the bottom of the sink or use a plastic dishpan.
If
a divided sink is used, have a rubber cover over ridge between both
sinks. Never overload sink with glassware.
Use mild hand dish
washing
liquid detergent, and do not use more than needed to avoid excessive
suds.
Hold
stemware by the bowl not the stem. With soft cloth under the water,
wipe the interior and exterior of the glassware. Rinse in pan of hot
clear water, or in second sink of hot water.
Allow glass to drain on
rack or towel-padded surface. If thoroughly rinsed, they can air dry
without drip marks.
Appearance
may be improved or polished if glassware is dried with clean dry
lintless cloth.
If
by chance there is food dried on surface which does not soak off in
washing, never use a metal knife, steel wool scouring pad, or an
abrasive cleanser on glass.
The least abrasive item
in the kitchen
suitable for use on glassware is baking soda.
Cleaning Glass
Assessories:
Glass
flower vases, cruets, or carafes used to hold water, wine, oil or other
liquids may develop stains in the bottom when allowed to set for a long
time. Normal washing
with soap and water may not get off all
the stain.
To remove these stains, try the following steps:
1.
Pour vinegar (brown or
white) into glass so as to be above the stain mark. Allow to stand 30
minutes to overnight, depending on intensity of the stain. Before
emptying vinegar, add about 1/2 teaspoon dry uncooked rice,
or 6-10 dry
bean. Shake glass rapidly so hard grains can rub off loosened stain
with a scouring action. Pour contents out. Rinse with water.
Repeat if
necessary.
2.
If not all the stain is
removed, pour ammonia into the glass to be above stain mark and allow
to stand over night. Add rice or beans and shake. Repeat if necessary.
3.
Commercial products such as
'Lime Away' can remove some stains. Read labels and follow directions
exactly. You may need to add grains of rice or beans and shake to get
scouring action with these products also.
If
you have crystal vases or carafes, do not leave flowers or food in them
any longer than necessary, since chemical changes can occur which
permanently stain crystal.
